TOURNAMENT FORMAT

An email with further instructions will be sent out one week prior to the tournament.

You will be competing in an online, round-robin tournament. Please read the guidelines carefully. Feel free to email us at bnss@gmail.com with any questions; further explanations will be provided during the opening ceremony.


Tournament Type: Over the Board (OTB)​​

Time Control: 15 | 10. Each player has 15 minutes total thinking time with 10 second increments per move made. There will be a 5 minute break in between each round with a total of 10 rounds.

Tournament Section: There will be two separate sections: one Open, for competitive players, and one Recreational, for casual players. Both sections have separate awards.​

Format: Round robin. Each player is placed in their brackets in accordance to their selected tournament section (Open or Recreational). Players play 6 rounds with different people in the bracket based. After all rounds are complete, the top 2 scorers will move on to a decisive finals determining the 1st and 2nd place for their bracket.

Scoring System: the tournament will operate on the following system: Win = 1 point, draw =1/2 points, and loss = 0 points.

Tiebreak System: If players are in a tie in their respective selections, an Armageddon round will be used to determine a winner. The player with the black pieces will have 4 minutes while the player with the white pieces will have 5 minutes. However, white must win to secure a point, while Black needs to either draw or win to secure a point. The colour of the pieces will be determined based on the situation.
